This was done for Bobby Chiu's waterworld book, I didn't really know what to do, didn't want to draw fish or dragons, etc so I remembered when I was a kid, how disappointed I was when I found out Sea Monkeys were some tiny stupid shrimp like things, and I still remember the cartoon advertisement they had back then haha.... Anyways, it was fun drawing this~!
Just bit of background info~

After the demons were defeated long ago, their restless souls were trapped into a magical sphere prisons and burrowed into the ground. As time passes and land shift and changed, the magical prison became weaker and at the same time soil above slowly washed away. It's not clear what exactly the history of the Hivier race is. It was said that some insects were attracted to the glowing aura of the sphere as it mistaken it for a glowing flower, its body were sucked towards the demon's soul and merged as one...
Thus the demon face resembling shell protects the fragile body of the hivier, evils walks the land once again sworm to destroy all in its path.

While all creature must consume food to create energy to survive, the beast feeds on perhaps one of the purest form of energy, heat. Similar to plants, which require sunshine and water, in a mythical world, the closest thing that is a is a combination of the sun and water, would perhaps be lava. It's internal organs, if they can even be called organs, transform the heat into energy to "power" up this unique creature. The Lava swimmer is a slow moving beast, and swims as if it has lost its soul. Where did it come from, why did it choose to exist in such lonely world where no other lifeform exist... that's a story for another time..."

No one knows where they came from, no one have seen their nesting ground. The Hell Harvesters travels at night and can hear the heart beats of living creatures from far away, as they track down their prey, they dive from the air and accurately chisel the front of their head into the prey's chest and launches their spike-like feet and tail to penetrate into the chest around the area of the heart. Just as quickly, the harvester push its body back with its powerful tail and wing, with the help of the saw-like hooks at the back of the feet and tail, it breaks the ribcage and rips the heart out. The inner-lining of the tail and feet contain soft short tentacles to hold the heart firmly in place while not destroying it, the harvested then fly back to the nesting ground with the harvested heart.

For some strange reason, the Harvester actaully does not eat the heart, but instead later returns to feed on the prey's corpse. No one really knows why, perhaps it is to mark their territory to fear off any intruders. Some rumors that they're creatures from hell, minions of death and bringing and end to the world...

Dungeon Cleaner

Another entry I did for Creature of the Week activity - the topic is Dungeon Cleaner~

Ya might need to read the background story to understand it hehee~

Background story

Long ago, fierce and brave dragon hunters and adventurers explored into the depth of dungeons, seeking for treasures and slaying anything in its path. Even the strongest of monsters were eventually slain.. Demons and Dragons... The most famous of all dragons were of course the fire dragon, not many lived to tell the tale. Even less knew how the dragon created flame, it was not just magical, it was not from their stomach, fire dragons has a special heat gland at their throat which allows them to melt down and digest anything that is consumed.

As monsters faces the risk of extinction, the fought for survival naturally strengthened. With food being scarce, creature such as this one found its new home. Attaching and slowly merging itself to the slain young fire dragon's head, it uses it's acidic tentacles to sweep and gather anything consumable, transforming the heat glands into its digestive system, it is capable of digesting almost anything.. The creature itelf is not aggressive, for its sole purpose is to survive, most of the time it hides in the shadows, coming out only when it knows everything is safe. Because of its manipulative body of the dragon's head, no creatures dare wander near its path. No one has seen this creature, but mysteries spread of why dungeons are kept so clean, not many signs of the remains of the hundreds and thousands of slain monsters and adventurers. As the mystery spreads, people then joked about it and the name "Dungeon Cleaner" was created of this legendary creature that kept the dungeon clean...

Although....after digesting a meal, it does release acidic gas into the air...but then again, it's only a Dungeon Cleaner, not an air purifier...

more creature design for fun activity, this one's topic is 75 Tons~

The core of the beast is a jelly like material that sucks the life out of any living things. and as his excretion comes from thousands of tiny pores that hardens like rock shape substances, that protects him from any of nature's threat. However the creature has a strange characteristic of reproduction. As it's size and the weight of his outer shell increases, it's body can longer sustain the maximum heavy weight, which so happens to be approximately 75 tonnes. At that time, chunks of the outer shell will then crack and drop from its body, tearing along tiny pieces of flesh with it. The new born flesh then continue the growth process all over again until it has reach the maximum weight and size. As the beast grows older, more of its shell will shed and less will be produced, exposing its vulnerable body and which will eventually die.

More creature design fun~

Once an elegant bird, the ICFA was earthbound by increasing pollution and poisonous gases in the atmosphere. However it's heightened life sustaining abilities allowed it to survive through eating insects. With the toxic chemicals still in its body, the ICFA started to mutate with the insects, becoming the creature it is now through survival needs and horrid transformation.

While it still walks like a bird, it's heavy body stops it from flying anymore. It's body is composed of dead flesh, and mutating with the fungii around it, it was able to create a food trap, using its own body to lure small mammals. The worm like head crawl its way to a high location and stealthly wait for its prey, while the wings cannot fly, it allows the creature to strike down with lightning speed and precision, killing the prey it catches in it's trap. This quick and deadly trapping method earns it the title of “It Came From Above”
